While Republican Representative Darrel Issa Obsessively Impugns the White House With Charges of IRS Targeting of the Tea Party, it Was Republican President Richard Nixon Who Actually Did Target Opponents With IRS Intimidation [ # 280 ]

Republican Representative Darrel Issa has relentlessly and obsessively been attempting to charge the White House with political motivation in the case of the IRS’s correct screening of tax-exempt social welfare applicants.
The House Democrats in response have issued a report on May 6, 2014 whose finding is that there exists ” No Evidence of White House Involvement or Political Motivation in IRS Screening of Tax-Exempt Applications “.
It is very noteworthy though, that while this relentless obsession with impugning the White House with wrongdoing has become standard operating procedure by the contrarian and obstructionist Republicans in the House of Representative, it is the Republican disgraced President Nixon who actually documentably committed the crime of forcing the IRS to target his political opponents.
The Washington Post has published a transcript of a recorded conversation in the Oval Office on May 13, 1971 where Richard Nixon stated the following as regards to what he expects from the next commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, who was to be Johnnie Walters.
” I want to be sure he is a ruthless son of a bitch, that he will do what he’s told, that every income tax return I want to see I see, that he will go after our enemies and not go after our friends.”
When Mr. Walters honorably refused to abide by this requirement to intimidate Mr. Nixon’s opponents by IRS audits, President Nixon’s response was “Well, he is going to be out…he is finished“.
On June 27, 2014, The Washington Post’s Emily Langer published an excellent obituary article on former IRS Commissioner Johnnie Walters titled “As Head of the IRS, He Declined to Go After Nixon’s Enemies”.
