Passover is a Story of Freedom Told in “Exodus” and Our Constitution’s Freedom of Speech is Another Story – Both Are to be Celebrated – The Former is Not Real, The Latter Is

On Friday, April 22, of the current year, Passover began with Seder.

Shalom Auslander is a talented, humorous, an American author and essayist who grew up in an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood and his writings are also to be celebrated.

Today, Sunday, April 24, 2016, The Washington Post, to its credit, has published a very relevant article written by Shalom Auslander and the editors of The Washington Post, aptly chose to publish said article in its Outlook Section, on the same page it publishes the very valuable and educational article on Sundays, titled “Five Myths”

The Shalom Auslander column on the left side of “Five Myths” is not only educational, highly relevant to the current events in the Middle East, as it is as well humorous while being totally serious and accurate.

The publication of Shalom Auslander’s column is also a celebration of our fundamental freedom of speech guaranteed Constitutionally.

So, let us call Auslander’s column today, the “Sixth Myth“.

Yes, the Sixth Myth is the narrative of Seder and Passover and this writer, as a son of German parents who survived the Nazi genocidal crimes against the humanity of Jews and others, is obviously highly respectful of those who profess Judaism to be their religion, as well as to any others who express profess any religion as their religion, even and particularly in view of his adoption of secular humanism as the philosophical foundation of his value system.

This writer fondly remembers his childhood in São Paulo, Brazil when his spiritually progressive Austrian mother of the Jewish faith brought together friends and family on Seder.

Having said this, the following is what Shalom Auslander commendably and accurately expressed about Passover in said column under the title “A ‘Fallen Jew’ on What to Read for Passover“.

Passover is the ancient Jewish holiday on which we celebrate the story of a man who probably never existed and who may or may not have freed his people from a slavery that probably never happened by bringing forth plagues of which there is no historical record, ultimately leading them on a journey through the desert for which there is no evidence to a Promised Land that turned out to be anything but.  Mazel tov !

Well, Auslander’s account is historical reality.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs, provided said beliefs are not abused and misused in ways that infringe on the rights of others.

Just as the account of Passover in the Book of Exodus (Shemont) in The Hebrew Bible cannot be misused abusively in ways which infringe on the rights of others, but can be used as a celebration of “freedom” by believers of the Jewish faith, and even by believers of other faiths, the following passage of the Book of Exodus, namely Deuteronomy 6; 10-12, cannot in any way be misused abusively in ways which infringe on the rights of others.

Deuteronomy 6:10-12, believe it or not, is believed to be part of an oration made by Moses to his people while on their way to the so-called  “Promised Land” :

Then when the Lord your God brings you to the land he promised your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob to give you –  a land with large fine cities you did not build, houses filled with choice things you did not accumulate, hewn out of cisterns you did not dig, and vineyards and olive groves you did not plant – and you eat your fill, be careful to not forget the Lord who brought you out of Egypt, that place of slavery

Again, this is a belief – and no more.  Period.

I belief is NOT a lien on the land of others which allows said “believers” to invade, steal, and to slay those  who legitimately have lived  there for centuries and who built said houses, said fine cities, and planted said vineyards and said olive groves, and then to add insult to injury, to  slay those legitimate owners of the land, houses, towns, plantations who naturally exercise their rights to defend their properties and their families and loved ones against said invaders.

The rest is history.

Criminal settlers and their Israeli power structure, when confronted with the reality of history, can no longer get away with dishonest their absurd historical revisionism, and with “might makes right” lawlessness, in their feeble-minded attempts to rationalize their crimes by using the bizarre falsehood – when asked who gives them the “right” to what they have done and continue to do –  namely  ” open the Bible “!

The world must act now to end the occupation of Palestine by the West, most notably first the British empire in WWI and then in  1948 during Zionists war of “independence” (?!), and finally after the 1967 war of Israeli aggression, when the United States decided horrifically that it was in its interest to proclaim some mythical “exceptionalist” theory for itself and Israel and from then on adopting and spreading the surreal notion that “Israel-can-do-no-wrong”, mixing into this non-sense the profoundly dishonest utterance by PM Golda Meyer who said that “there is no such thing as Palestine” and that “Israel is a land of no people for people without a land

This can and must be done peacefully, and in such a way that the present misrulers of that Apartheid entity called “Israel”,  which is the egregiously racist and violent nationalization embodiment by only a segment of those of the Jewish faith who invented the Zionist ideology,  is permanently sidelined.

Jews must be able to go on living in Palestine as long as they end their supremacy which has not geopolitical or historical or legal foundation,  and therefore end their violations of international law so that thereby both, the Palestinians and the Jewish illegal settlers can find a harmonious coexistence which ends the 68-year-old colonization of Palestine and thereby end their violent repression and atrocities against the humanity of the Palestinians.

This is a process which would also liberate and sober up the colonizers in ways which could bring both to usher in an era of constructive and creative celebrations of freedom from fear of further warfare which, if unchecked, has the potential to lead to a much wider conflict global conflict.

The only way to bring this end of conflict about is for the United Nations and the International Criminal Court to take the lead,  and for the West, most particularly the enabling United States, to disenable its pernicious path with only adds fuel to an ever-increasing fire in the whole Middle East via and end to its military support not only of Israel, but as well to Saudi Arabia and Egypt, coupled to an imposition of drastic sanctions on Israel so that its obscurantist, right-wing extremist, fundamentalist, misleaders of present day Israel will go into retirement as they entered a final dead end-alley now.
