May 1st, 2016, or “May Day” will be celebrated world-wide as a day to commemorate the role all workers in all fields of endeavor, for their contribution to the production and creation of civilized societies of participative and transparent democracies which constitutionally guarantee their citizenry literally equal rights and obligations under the law.

While this day was first celebrated as such in the United States of America on May 1, 1886, when more than 300,000 workers in 13,000 businesses across the United States walked off their jobs in the first May Day celebration in history,  the evolution of our capitalist system went awry to such an extend that it affected negatively a celebration which inspired the rest of the world, particularly those nations whose systems of economic development included humanist, democratic, socialist dimensions.

Today May 1st is known in the United States as ” Law Day” as a result of a May 1st, 1958 proclamation of President Eisenhower.  It can be noted that the same President Eisenhower is responsible for the introduction of the words ” In God We Trust” into our currency, a violation of the 1st Amendment and enticed by the belief that all Soviet Communists were atheist.   As an aside and in defense of President Eisenhower it must be noted that he condemned the U.S. nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, since after Japan was militarily defeated in June of 1945, the U.S. dropped the nuclear bombs August 6, of 1945.

So, what it effect happened is that what had been a Worker’s Day, as a result of the American Bar Association proposal in 1957, became “Law Day”,  and “Labor Day” was created to become on the first Monday of September,  the day Americans, workers – and others -,  are exhorted to go out and shop to consume conspicuously until they drop, something which brings to mind the post September 11, 2001 tragedy exhortation by our misleader junta’s so-called “President” George W. Bush, who ordered the American people to “go out and shop”…!

So, on this day of global celebrations of May 1st, this writer, with this foreword, defers to illustrious  historian Peter Linebaugh who wrote “The Incomplete, True, Authentic & Wonderful History of May Day” by inserting infra his interview by the one and only legendary Amy Goodman of the highly prestigious and viewer supported program Democracy Now.
