This is a very succinct ARGENTUM POST News Flash Digest [ APNFD Nr. 91]

While today’s 02/05/2019 State of the Union by Donald Trump was mostly inflated, banal, and unremarkable, he made three assertions  that where shockingly dishonest.

(1) Trump dishonestly criticized the case of the Virginia Governor Northam by falsely stating that Northam said that “…he would execute a baby after birth…” and hence Trump will ask Congress to pass a law to prohibit this.

The truth is, as CNBC reported, the Governor stated that  “The infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”  

CNBC then further reported that “Northam’s spokeswoman, Ofirah Yheskel, clarified that his comments referred only to a situation in which a woman with a “nonviable pregnancy or severe fetal abnormalities went into labor.”

(2) Trump also lied grotesquely when, he then claimed that Iran is “the world’s greatest sponsor of terrorism ” and to boot he linked Iran to the threat manifested in the October massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, something which is an outrageous lie, since it was an American anti-Semitic terrorist named Robert Bowers who committed that heinous crime.  Additionally Trump stated that ” Iran was out to commit genocide on the Jewish people” which is another brazen lie.

The truth is, that (a) Iran, a mostly Shiite nation, it is governed now by a moderate democratically elected President Rouhani, and in the last 250 years has not committed a single terrorist attack anywhere, but it has been the victim of terrorist attacks by Israel which targeted and killed some of its scientists who were working on Iran’s nuclear energy generation plant for legal and peaceful objectives, but PM Netanyahu has unsuccessfully and dishonestly attempted to frame these Iranians as working on a nuclear weapons arsenal, and (b) USA Today reports that some 15 thousand Jews live in Iran and feel comfortable and respected.

So, it is truly amazing that even in a such a ceremonious, traditional, democratic exercize as the annual State of the Union message, Donald Trump could not help but dishonoring it with his pathological lying.
