Behind the Scenes Pressures by John Kerry and Netanyahu on Nigeria Prevented Passage of the UN Security Council Resolution Demanding Israel Abide by International Law

As an addendum to the Argentum Post article titled “The U.N. Created the Conditions for the Miscreation of Israel-in-Palestine and Now Only the UN Must and Will Effectively Achieve a Resolution” which was published on January 1, 2015, it is worthy to note that it was due to the unethical pressures applied by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Israeli PM Netanyahu, on Nigeria’s UN representative, U Joy Ogwyu, that the UN Security Council draft resolution was not passed at this time, by the narrowest margin of one vote.
Peter Beaumont, on December 31st, 2014, reported in the prestigious Pulitzer prize winner, The Guardian of London, a particularly incisive article on this vote at the UN and the following are two of the most salient paragraphs in said report.
After the vote, the Israeli foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, took a swipe at the European countries which backed the resolution. “The Palestinian disregard to the international community’s most important countries – particularly the US – stems from the backing they receive from certain European countries,” he said.
“Erekat said in a statement after the vote: “We presented a resolution that is fully in line with international law, and which recalls several previously approved resolutions by the United Nations. “Although the majority of the security council voted in favour of the resolution, once again, certain countries continue to ensure impunity to the Israeli occupation and its severe international law violations by not voting in favour of the resolution.”
It is now clear that the only constructive, sustainable, peaceful way forward to a settlement of the conflict which was created the moment the decision was made 66 years ago, without consultation with Palestinians, to dispossess them from their land and other properties by the violent implantation of an expansionist Israel in the heart of their territory with the subsequent eviction of close to one million of them, is to involve the United Nations and the International Criminal Court so as to bring Israel into compliance with the international law it has gotten away with violating since then, and most egregiously since it started the 1967 war, falsely declared as “preemptive”.
It is also now clear that the current misleaders of Israel, particularly Netanyahu, will keep repeating ad nauseam and ad absurdum his false mantra that the rapidly increasing support by the European Union particularly and by the world community in general for the UN/ICC intervention is due to some kind of oxymoronic anti-Semitism, a specious and particularly odious characterization given that there is a huge crescendo of support from the Jews for such a resolution, in Israel itself, in the United States, and throughout the world.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has continuously attempted to no avail to use the Holocaust to sharply attack Europe following the decision by the European court in Luxembourg to have Hamas removed from the EU’s list of terrorist organizations, and against the backdrop of Wednesday’s Conference of High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention in Switzerland. The fact that he will not let go of this nonsensical and insulting characterization of those yearning for a final and sustainable peace with justice for Palestinians and security for Israel, reflects how morally, politically, and intellectually he and his supporters are they continue in their destructive path down a one-way alley.
Great article my friend!
Thank you, my friend too !
Thanks for your tireless efforts to expose the truth behind all the propaganda and arm-twisting by the US & Israel!! Let’s hope 2015 will bring more countries in the UN into circle of support for safety, justice and freedom for Palestinians.
Thanks Marie. I just wrote a letter to the editor of The Washington Post based on a Post book review which is precious as it shows how even one of the most essential founders of the Zionist ideology, Theodor Herzl, is dismissed by the arrogant outlaws now adding insult to the injuries they have meted out on Palestinians for decades.
PS My first note of appreciation was to a comment of another reader but I slipped up and sent it to you… (:>)
