As Trump Recklessly and Insanely Threatens to “Totally Destroy” North Korea Risking Nuclear War, ICAN Receives The Nobel Peace Prize

As Trump’s ignominiously and recklessly threatened to “totally destroy” a nation of 25 million people at the 2017 annual assembly of the United Nations, an act that must not even be imagined, as it would have a high probability to unleash a nuclear war, EuroNews reported on December 10, 2017 that  the winner of the Nobel Peace prize this year is  The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons or (ICAN).

ICAN was honored for its collective work with dozens of NGO’s and its executive director, Beatrice Fihn, said that “ The story of nuclear weapons will have an ending and it is up to us to decide what that will be ”.  She then quite aptly added  “ Will it be the ending of nuclear  weapons ? Or will it be the ending us ?  One of these things will happen.

Most importantly though, Beatrice Fihn said “ The only rational course of action is to cease living under the conditions where mutual destruction is only one impulsive tantrum away. “

It so happens that when it comes to our White House occupying misleader Trump, he is the living embodiment of an unstable, ignorant, narcissist , supremacist, racist, hate and fear monger, whose “ impulsive tantrums “ occur 24/7.

Neither the United States, nor any state in the world should ever be obliged to live in a state of nuclear terror which can be unleashed at any moment as a result of energumenic malice or as a result of an irreversible error.

This means that both, Trump and nuclear weapons, must be given the highest priority when in comes to their isolation, containment, and deconstruction  – starting immediately.

It goes without saying that today it is nuclear armed North Korea which Trump mindlessly threatens with military action, something which if reduced to practice, even his Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis  stated that it would lead to a catastrophe.  Tomorrow the enemy “du jour” may be Cuba, or Venezuela, or the People’s Republic of China, or Iran or any other nation Trump wakes up hating as a result of a bad dream.

With this short foreword, the Argentum Post shares with its readers (A)  the infra video clip and additional EuroNews elaboration of the award event in Oslo, and (B#) a brief list of contextualizing historical facts which have led North Korea to develop a nuclear weapon capability which its not-so irrational leadership strongly feels it needs as a deterrent against a U.S. destabilizing intervention,  and destructive invasion.

Such kind of interferences in the internal affairs of other nations the U.S.  has become known to undertake for decades in South America, in Central America, in the Caribbean, in Iran, in Indonesia, in Iraq, in Libia, and in many other countries which were neither threatening the U.S. nor had WMD’s which could be used against the U.S. and which quite to the contrary, had their democratically elected leaders overthrown with U.S. involvement because they would not align with the interests of the barons of the international corporatized elites, of the international financial sectors, and so on, and among them are Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay (all victims of “Operation Condor” orchestrated by Nixon and Henry Kissinger), and the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras,  Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Vietnam, Korea,  and others.

So starting with (A), the following is the link to said video clip plus further elaboration on the ICAN Nobel Peace Prize award event as reported by EuroNews on December 10, 2017.

Now the contextualizing historical facts with some added AP editorial comment.

(B1) The United States dropped 635 thousand tons of bombs in Korea, not counting 32,557 tons of napalm.   This figure his higher than the number of bombs the U.S. dropped in World War II.   Source : Bruce Cummings, a University of Chicago professor who has written several books on North Korea and who wrote “ The Korean War : A History ”

Why Does North Korea Hate the United States ?   Let’s Go Back to the Korean War

(B2)

A discussion by Army Lt. Col.  Daniel L. Davis about the need to prevent war on North Korea published by the prestigious Center of National Interest is here included.

(B3)

This is about the successful use of diplomacy by the one of a kind, humanist U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter waged peace.

In June 1994, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter became the first people to cross the demilitarized zone from South Korea to North Korea and back again since the two countries were divided following the Korean War. President and Mrs. Carter had been invited by then-President Kim Il Sung to visit North Korea and went as representatives of The Carter Center with the hope of defusing a serious issue related to North Korea’s nuclear program.

The international climate at the time of the Carters’ visit was growing increasingly heated, as fears mounted in the United States and other countries that North Korea was developing a nuclear arsenal. After the North Koreans had withdrawn their membership in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and threatened to expel the IAEA’s inspectors, the United States began pushing for U.N. sanctions.

Following two days of talks with President Carter, President Kim agreed to freeze North Korea’s nuclear program in exchange for the resumption of a dialogue with the United States. That breakthrough led to the first dialogue between the United States and North Korea in 40 years. Subsequent talks between the two countries resulted in two agreements, reached in October 1994 and June 1995, in which North Korea agreed neither to restart its nuclear reactor nor to reprocess the plant’s spent fuel. Construction was halted on two additional plants, and all three were to be replaced with safer light-water reactors, which cannot produce weapons-grade materials.

See additionally how Carter went to Pyong Yang and North Korea froze its  nuclear energy weaponization program.

In July 26, 1950 an event comparable to the 1958 My Lai massacre took place in Korea and it has been largely hidden from public memory.

It was the “ No Gun Ri” massacre in which upwards of 300 civilians were killed by U.S. soldiers of the 8th Army

(B5)

It takes researching and reading books to find out what normally should be part of  the mainstream’s media obligation to report contextualizingly about the reality of the history of U.S. – North Korea.

As Trump had the temerity to go the United Nations General Assembly to threaten to “totally destroy” a nation of 25 million inhabitants because they have acquired one or more nuclear weapons to use as a deterrent to an invasion and regime change, hardly anyone in  America is aware that 60 years ago, it was the United States which introduced nuclear weapons in Korea (South Korea).

It is hypocrisy on steroids on Trump’s part to issue reckless and highly inflammatory threats of war on  North Korea, as this is done in our name and “we the people” cannot accept to be put in a position of having a mentally unstable incompetent misleader terrorizing us with the thought that we must live with this sword of Damocles of nuclear war due to the rage and incompetence of a misleader who does not know what he doing and hence does not care that he is inviting catastrophic disaster for our nation and for the world.

(B6)

As CounterPunch reported,  in its article titled “The Problem is Washington, Not North Korea “, “ In the 64 years since the war ended, the U.S. has done everything in its power  to punish, humiliate, and inflict pain on the Communist country “ (with the exception being the noble and commendable efforts by U.S. President Jimmy Carter).

Bottom line though is the imperative that the peoples of all nations currently in possession of nuclear weapons arsenals link up via the Internet and form one international movement to start immediately to dismantle said weapons of mutually assured self-destruction of life on our planet. This should proceed in the form of a highly organized, disciplined, coordinated horizontal  movement globally and must simultaneous start everywhere where applicable vertically from the bottom up by peaceful means and therefrom – ideally- be met from the top down in most stable nations.

According to a new report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), nine nations — the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea — possess approximately 16,300 nuclear weapons (Jan 22, 2016).

India, Israel and Pakistan have not signed the NPT

Israel however not only refused to sign up to the NPT, but secretly in 1969 started to develop an arsenal of nuclear weapons as per an agreement between our disgraced President Nixon and the Israeli PM Golda Meir who had the temerity to utter the nonsensical statement that “ ...there is no such thing as Palestine…”

Scandalously, Israel uses what it calls its policy of “strategic ambiguity” when asked about its arsenal of nuclear WMD’s and furthermore uses its WPN-136 which is an Israel nuclear gag-order.  The “Institute or Research: Middle Eastern Policy” (aka IRmep) to its credit, has filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging U.S. aid to Israel and a 2012 federal gag order on the release of information about Israel’s nuclear weapons program.

Scandalously as well, Israel has proliferated its nuclear energy weaponization technology to, of all nations, the Apartheid white racist supremacist regime of South Africa in the mid 80’s.

Documentation about this bizarre cooperation between the Zionist power structure of Israel and the Apartheid racist regime is found in, inter alia, a book authored by the Jewish son of Austrian parents who escaped the Nazi crimes against the Jews and others, and his name is Sasha Polakow-Suransky.  The title of his book is “ The Unspoken Alliance : Israel’s Secret Relationship With Apartheid South Africa

Israel also abducted Mordecai Vanunu, who was a whistleblower who worked at the Demona Nuclear plant in the Negev desert, and who warned the world in the mid 80’s about the danger of Israel’s nuclear arsenal program.

Vanunu was abducted in Italy after giving an interview of 4,000 words about the danger of nuclear weapons proliferation and about the likelihood of Saudi Arabia and Egypt acquiring an arsenal after Israel got away with its development of one.

Without a due process trial, Vanunu was placed into solitary confinement for 11 years and it was the intervention of Israel’s Supreme Court which resulted in his release to house arrest after he had become physically and mentally ill.

The good news though, is that with the universal solid rejection of the Trump/Netanyahu destabilizing, destructive, incendiary plan to render all of Jerusalem the capital of Israel, there has been now a renaissance of the urgent need for Israel to pressured and be held accountable to and end its international law violating occupation of all lands occupied and annexed in 1967.

So, at this time, it will be the United Nations, the European Union, the Arab League, and the International Court of Crime which hopefully will hold the Zionist power structure accountable for a solution which will have to include the dismantling of the nuclear weapons arsenal of Israel, and for this purpose the double-edged synergistic approach of international jurisprudence institutional intervention in synergy with a doubling down of international “Boycott, Disinvestment, and Sanctions” (aka BDS) will become peacefully effective for the establishment of a democratic Palestine/Israel with equal rights for all and with the right of return of the Palestinians who were expelled in 1948 and afterwards, as well as of their offspring.

To complete this article, an additional paragraph or two are needed to be include infra about Article VI of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which stipulates inter alia, the total elimination of all nuclear weapons globally, which is an imperative for which the time is more ripe than ever.

Article VI of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (“NPT”) states in full: “Each of the Parties to the Treaty undertakes to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament, and on a Treaty on general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control.”

In the 1996 International Court of Justice (ICJ) opinion on the “Legality of the Threat or Use of Nuclear Weapons”, the Court indicated that Article VI of the treaty compels the member-states to more than simply an “action,” but to a final “result” obligation. In Paragraph F of the opinion’s disposition, the fifteen judge panel decided unanimously that, “There exists an obligation to pursue in good faith and bring to a conclusion negotiations leading to nuclear disarmament in all its aspects under strict and effective international control.”

The United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics drastically reduced their nukes during an era where notwithstanding the “Cold War”, U.S. diplomacy was sophisticated, balanced, realistic, and tempered by the highest level of scholarly competence by the officers of our foreign service.   Forward to the beginning of 2017, as a result of the worst electoral disaster in our history, a disaster enhanced by presence of that historical relic that the “Electoral College” is which prevents us from having a direct vote, coupled by the absence of the badly needed Instant Runoff Voting system, in an election which provided voters with two inferior choices, the most inferior of the two, manage to occupy the White House even though he lost by at least 3 million votes, and even it was clear from prior to the beginning of his campaigning for the nomination, that he was an utterly incompetent, dishonest, unreliable, misogynist, narcissist, racist supremacist, corrupt, demagogue who now has become a major threat to our national security and to the best interests of ALL Americans.

Provided infra is a chart of how the U.S. and the USSR went from zero to tenths of thousands nuclear warheads and how, to both of their credit, managed to return to about 5 thousand of them.

It goes without saying that ZERO nuclear weapons is what this world needs now, besides “peace, sweet peace” and prosperity plus equality (inter alia).

POST SCRIPTUM re: Breaking News ( 7 hours ago )

As if to underscore the main points of this Argentum Post article, just days after the incendiary Trump/Netanyahu engineered incendiary provocation as regards the Jerusalem issue,  the  Trump – Netanyahu axis allied with  Saudi Arabias King Salman continues to incendiarily attempt to destabilize the Middle East by now threatening an all out war on Lebanon and Iran.

Given that the scourge of Daesh (aka ISIS) has now been defeated, and given the universal condemnation of the outrageous provocation by Trump/Netanyahu on Palestine, one would expect the ushering in of an era of reconstruction and healing which most certainly all of the affected Muslim and Jewish and other peoples of the region overwhelmingly expect and demand, but instead the hegemonic, belligerent, dark and sinister cartels of misleaders of said Arabian and Israelite peoples, ignore reality and continue on their organized-crime type maneuvers designed to make these unconscionable oligarchs the rulers of the Middle East by their relentless divide to conquer and destroy strategies.

The prestigious independent Israeli Newspaper Haaretz has reported  7 hours ago, today on December 13, 2017, that the Israeli Intel Minister Israel Katz described Saudi Arabia as the “leader of the Arab world”  (?!) and further added the following :

“What happened in 2006 will be a picnic compared to what we can do. I remember a Saudi minister saying they will send Hezbollah back to their caves in south Lebanon. I am telling you that we will return Lebanon to the Stone Age.”

So, as if to underscore the main points of this Argentum Post article, here we have a nuclear weapons armed Israel in an unholy alliance with the most egregious human rights violating dictatorship of Saudi Arabia threatening to destroy Lebanon for no discernible reason, and this after previously having bombed southern Lebanon, where 500 thousand Palestinian refugees live who were expelled from their land by Israel on two occasions in 1982.

One of these occasions was the Sabra and Shatila massacre in 1982 when Ariel Sharon was the Israeli PM.

The other occasion was 1985-1988 when thousands of Lebanese and Palestinians were killed during an invasion by Israel (as Mary Curtius reported infra by  The Christian Science Monitor ).

It is difficult to assess just how much Israel’s invasion and three-year occupation hastened the disintegration of Lebanon. Israel rolled across the border June 6, 1982, to crush the Palestinian infrastructure established in the south, to force a Syrian withdrawal from the central and eastern sectors, and to install a pro-Israeli leader. Thousands of Lebanese and Palestinian civilians were killed during Israel’s invasion. Thousands more were wounded, and scores of thousands lost their homes. Millions of dollars worth of damage was done to the Lebanese infrastructure.

The population of west Beirut was forced to endure a nearly three month-long siege while the Israelis squeezed the Palestine Liberation Organization’s guerrilla forces out of the mostly Muslim section of town in the summer and fall of 1982.”

The Trumpian – Netanyahuan – Saudi   axis of destruction must be sidelined, most particularly after the abhorrent and illegal intervention by Trump/Netanyahu in Jerusalem.

The global blowback to this scandalously destabilizing travesty has rendered the U.S. uncreditworthy as a facilitator in genuine peace talks aimed and at genuine solutions for the plight of the Palestinians.

The role for this process to now start earnestly can be accomplished via the direct and immediate involvement of the United Nations, the European Union, the International Court of Justice in cooperation with the a Trump/Neocon/Neolib- free  United States, and in coordination with Russia, Turkey,  and China and the  members states of the Arab League- which at this would have to exclude the Saudi Arabian  and the Bahraini misleaderships which persist presently in being part of the problem rather than part of solutions.

Additionally the rest of the world community’s institutions focused on peace, justice, equality, and prosperity need to be now involved in this effort to finally bring justice and peace to the conflict which the forcible. unjust, irrational,  implantation in 1948 into Palestine  of the nationalization product of part of the Judaic faith.

An urgent long overdue total reformulation of the American policy towards the Zionist nationalist supremacist power structure which is long overdue must take place in tandem with this justice process.

While the mainstream U.S. media is largely silent about it, the American people needs to be educated about the reality of the dysfunctional and corrupted U.S. policy toward Israel, and that means that it needs to be aware of,  and disseminate,  the fact that every year there is annual all day conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC which is attended by hundreds of U.S. scholars, foreign service officials, intelligence community officials, journalists, and many others, which features some 20 or more speakers who are who expose, debate, and educate the decades of false narratives which created myths about Israel’s victimhood when it in reality has been the perpetrator of humiliation, oppression, human rights violations, massive expulsions, invasions, occupations, house demolitions, collective punishments, and mass bombings of the people in Palestine and of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

The following is the link to the 2018 event at the National Press Club on March 2, 2018.
